Room History
RA Park  -  Officers Mess

Entrance
   - Overhead, stained glass window “RA 1816 RE , Officers’ Mess.”
   - Plaque commemorating the formation of the Nova Scotia Company of    Engineers 21 July 1784.

Hallway

- Six panels naming the military commanders of Acadia and Nova Scotia from 1605 to present.
- Range Scale Plate commemorating the disbandment of 49th Harbour Defence Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery, 1957.

Blue Beret Room (East Side)
- Originally used as a ladies dining room as women were not permitted in the main part of the mess. This room was changed to the Blue Beret Room in the 1990s.
- UN Pennants presented by MGen J.A. MacInnis, UN Flags presented by LCol BF Jeffery.

Air Force Room (North Side)
- This room was given "over" to the Air Force after their Maritime Air Group mess closed down in the 1960s.
- Series of nine military aircraft watercolours by Dr O. Kochkanoff.
- World Clock presented by Pan American Airways August 1961, Crest Maritime Air Group.

Page Room (Sunroom)
- Named after Maj Gen L.F. Page C.B., D.S.O., GOC-in-C Atlantic Command 1943-44.
- Joan Wanklyn prints of A,B, and C Batteries 1 Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.

Plow Room (Large Dinning Room)
- Named after Brig E.C. Plow, O.B.E., D.S.O., CCRA 1st Canadian Corps.
- Painting “Highlanders in Line’, print “Artillery In Action” of the Great War.
- Dinner gong used from 1912, Tapestry presented by Brig H.V.D Laing.

Elkins Room
- Named after Maj Gen W.H.P. Elkins, C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., GOC-in-C Atlantic Command 1940-43.

Craig Room (West Side)
- Named after Col C.S. Craig D.S.O., M.C., Commander Halifax Fortress 1939-45.

The Noon Gun (The Lower Bar)
- Horse brass on ceiling typical of an old British Pub well appreciated by all military officers.
- Shadow boxes containing badges of army Corps and Regiments, Rifles used in the early 20th Century.

9.2 Inch Gun Room
- Named after the Gunners that served the 9.2 –inch BL Mark X coastal guns in Halifax during both WWs.

Beaver Hollow
- Prints of Royal Engineers in traditional uniforms and of early years in Halifax. The Beaver is the symbols of the Royal Engineers and Royal Canadian Engineers.
- George Cross winners for bravery Cpl J.Hendry and Capt J. Patton.

The Stables (The basement)
- This room was once used as stables for the officer's horses.
- The brass pieces for horses' collar are meant to remind us of this fact.
